Becky Ann Baker and Peter Scolari, costars on the HBO comedy series Girls, will join the rotating casts for the New York premiere of Dear Elizabeth, a Women’s Project Theater production written by two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee and Tony nominee Sarah Ruhl.

Directed by Kate Whoriskey, the drama follows the friendship between poets Elizabeth Bishop and Robert Lowell, whose relationship spanned 30 years and included more than 400 letters. Performances will run from October 26-December 5 at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre, with six rotating casts. Baker and Scolari will perform the new play from November 9-14.

Tony nominee Kathleen Chalfant (Wit) and Drama Desk nominee Harris Yulin (Hedda Gabler) will kick off the run, performing the roles of Bishop and Lowell from October 26-31. The subsequent casts include Drama Desk winner J. Smith-Cameron (Juno and the Paycock) and Obie winner John Douglas Thompson (Satchmo at the Waldorf) from November 2-7; two-time Tony Award winner Cherry Jones (The Glass Menagerie) and David Aaron Baker (A Raisin in the Sun) from November 16-21; real-life married couple Ellen McLaughlin (Angels in America) and Grammy winner and Pulitzer finalist Rinde Eckert (Slow Fire) from November 23-28. Mia Katigbak (Awake and Sing!) will take with stage from November 30-December 5 with another performer yet to be announced. Polly Noonan (Dead Man’s Cell Phone) will play the Stage Manager role for all six weeks.

The creative team for Dear Elizabeth features set design by Antje Ellermann, costume design by Anita Yavich, lighting design by Mary Louise Geiger, and sound design by Jill B.C. Du Boff and Emily Auciello.
