The season will include the world premiere of a new play by Suzan-Lori Parks and the North American premiere of Conor McPherson and Bob Dylan’s ”Girl From the North Country”.
The Public Theater has announced its 2018-19 season.
The season will kick off with Girl From the North Country, written and directed by Conor McPherson and featuring music and lyrics by Bob Dylan, and making its North American premiere September 11-November 4 after successful runs at London's Old Vic and the West End. The New York premiere of Jane Anderson's Mother of the Maid, starring Glenn Close as the mother of Joan of Arc, and directed by Matthew Penn, will follow, September 25-November 18.
The world premiere of Patricia Ione Lloyd's Eve's Song, directed by Jo Bonney, will follow, October 23-December 2. Hansol Jung's Wild Goose Dreams, directed by Leigh Silverman, will then make its New York premiere October 30-December 9 after an acclaimed run at San Diego's La Jolla Playhouse last season.
The first show of the new year will be the New York premiere of a double bill of monologues, running January 26, 2019-March 24, 2019: Simon Stephens's Sea Wall, performed by Tom Sturridge; and Nick Payne's A Life, performed by Jake Gyllenhaal. Both plays will be directed by Carrie Cracknell.
Suzan-Lori Parks will present a new play, White Noise, in a world premiere directed by Oskar Eustis, February 19, 2019-March 31, 2019. Two more world premieres will follow: Jordan E. Cooper's Ain't No Mo', directed by Stevie Walker-Webb, March 12, 2019-April 21, 2019; and Tim Blake Nelson's Socrates, directed by Doug Hughes, April 2, 2019-May 19, 2019. The season will conclude with the New York premiere of Luis Alfaro's Mojada, directed by Chay Yew, July 2, 2019-August 11, 2019.
In addition, the Public Theater's Mobile Unit will present A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by Jenny Koons, October 29-November 18; and The Tempest, directed by Lucas Caleb Rooney, April 29, 2019-May 19, 2019. Both will follow three-week tours in the five boroughs.
And the 15th annual Under the Radar Festival will take place January 3-13, 2019, with Manuel Cinema's Frankenstein being the first show announced. The full lineup will be presented in the fall.
