The Public Theater's world-premiere production of Mlima's Tale, the latest from two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage (Sweat) is currently in rehearsals ahead of performances set to begin March 27. The play will open April 15 for its run through May 20.
Ito Aghayere, Jojo Gonzalez, Kevin Mambo, and Sahr Ngaujah will star in the production. Under the direction of Jo Bonney, the creative team will include Riccardo Hernandez (scenic design), Jennifer Moeller (costume design), Lap Chi Chu (lighting design), Darron L. West (sound design), Justin Hicks (original music), and Chris Walker (movement direction).
Mlima's Tale is described as "the story of Mlima, a magnificent elephant trapped in the clandestine international ivory market. Following a trail of greed and desire as old as trade itself, Mlima leads us through memory and fear, history and tradition, and want and need."
