Greg Kotis and Mark Hollmann's Musical Version of The Sting May Be Headed to Broadway

A musical version of the classic 1973 film The Sting may be Broadway-bound, according to published reports. The show, which features music and lyrics by Urinetown team Mark Hollmann and Greg Kotis, received a reading in New York City earlier this month, the New York Post first reported.

That reading is said to have featured Tony winner Shuler Hensley (Waiting for Godot, No Man's Land) as the mob boss and Mandy Gonzalez (In the Heights) as the brothel madam Billie, with Tony winner John Rando (On the Town) directing. The musical features a book by The Drowsy Chaperone cowriter Bob Martin.

Written by David S. Ward and starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford, the film The Sting won seven Academy Awards and received 10 total nominations at the 46th Academy Awards. The movie featured music by Broadway composer Marvin Hamlisch, who famously adapted Scott Joplin "The Entertainer" for the score.
