The events will take place in pubs throughout New York City.
New York Shakespeare Exchange, the company known for popularizing Shakespeare for diverse, contemporary audiences in new and timely ways, will stage its next "ShakesBEER" pub crawls in September. This new round of the community-building, immersive pub crawls will take place on consecutive Saturdays September 10 and 17, from 3pm to 6pm.
Launching at The Gaf bar, the "ShakesBEER" crawl will hit four bars in the course of an afternoon (the others are The Waylon, Perdition, and Lansdowne). At each of these establishments a different classic scene is performed by the New York Shakespeare Exchange ensemble. Featured in the cast will be Hannah Elless (Bright Star).
The September "ShakesBEER" brings to new life classic scenes from Romeo & Juliet, As You Like It, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and, a scene from Martin McDonagh's Tony Award-nominated dark comedy The Cripple of Inishmaan ("ShakesBEER" will be a special event of Origin's 1st Irish Festival.)
NY Shakespeare Exchange has generated attention for innovative programs like The Sonnet Project, in which short films based on all 154 Shakespeare sonnets are being shot in areas throughout New York City by diverse filmmakers. (The collection now numbers 110.) The launch of an international initiative will be announced soon.
