New York City
The new musical is written by Tom Kitt, Brian Yorkey, and Bridget Carpenter.
Arlington's Signature Theatre celebrated the opening of Tom Kitt, Brian Yorkey, and Bridget Carpenter's new musical, Freaky Friday. As previously announced, Heidi Blickenstaff (Something Rotten!) and Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening) star as Katherine and Ellie Blake, an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically swap bodies and have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding.
Blickenstaff and Hunton are joined by Jason Gotay as Adam, Alan H. Green as Mike, along with Shayna Blass, Tyler Bowman, Cicily Daniels, Jamie Eacker, Sherri L. Edelen, Katie Ladner, Storm Lever, J. Elaine Marcos, Thaddeus McCants, Calvin McCullough, Jake Heston Miller, Tanisha Moore, Julian Ramos, Olivia Ashley Reed, Bobby Smith, Robert Walters, and Jason "SweetTooth" Williams.
Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions expressly for licensing to theaters, the musical features a book by Bridget Carpenter, and music and lyrics by Tony-winning collaborators Kitt and Yorkey (Next to Normal, If/Then). The premiere production is directed by Tony nominee Christopher Ashley with choreography by Tony nominee Sergio Trujillo (On Your Feet!). It is a musical adaptation of Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel, which subsequently inspired two hit Disney films.
Performances of Freaky Friday will run through November 20.
