The audience-interactive musical about Imelda Marcos will mount productions globally.
After an acclaimed 2013 Public Theater run and a current commercial off-Broadway run, Here Lies Love will play its final performance in New York on January 4, 2015, producers have announced. The first Public Theater production of David Byrne and Fatboy Slim's immersive Imelda Marcos musical, directed by Alex Timbers, began performances on April 2, 2013, and ended its run on July 28, 2013. The current production reopened at The Public Theater on April 14, 2014, with an official opening on May 1, 2014.
Here Lies Love will now mount productions around the world. The musical recently opened in London at the Dorfman Theatre, under the auspices of the National Theatre. Plans are under way for the Australian premiere as the centerpiece of the Vivid Sydney Festival in May 2015. A U.S. national touring production will also begin in San Francisco. Performances of the show are also expected for South America, South Korea, Singapore, Japan, and the Philippines.
The current principal off-Broadway cast features Jaygee Macapugay and Jose Llana as Imelda and Ferdinand Marcos, and Conrad Ricamora as Ninoy Aquino. Conceived by David Byrne, Here Lies Love features lyrics by Byrne and Fatboy Slim and choreography by Annie-B Parson. Additional music is by Tom Gandey & J. Pardo. Scenic design is by David Korins, with costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by Justin Townsend, sound design by M.L. Dogg and Cody Spencer, and projection design by Peter Nigrini. Kimberly Grigsby serves as music supervisor.
Here Lies Love won 2013 Drama Desk Awards for outstanding music, lighting design, and projection design.
