Stephen Sondheim’s “She’ll Be Back” will finally see the light of day after being removed from the big screen adaptation.
A brand new Stephen Sondheim song called "She'll Be Back" will be featured in the upcoming Blu-ray Combo Pack release of the Into the Woods movie when it hits shelves on March 24.
"She'll Be Back" was written specifically for the film in order to shed new light on the relationship between the Witch and Rapunzel. Sung by Meryl Streep, it was later cut from the movie's final edit. The scene will be viewable in its entirety, introduced by director Rob Marshall, exclusively on the Blu-ray and EHV editions.
Bonus features also include "There's Something About the Woods," a behind-the-scenes look at how Rob Marshall and his team of artists brought the woods of Into the Woods to life; interviews with stars including Streep, Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, and James Corden; commentary with Marshall and producer John DeLuca, and five Easter Egg musical segments from the film with optional sing-along lyrics.
The film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony-winning musical opened in theaters on Christmas Day, earning over $46 million from the time of its release through its opening weekend. Total box office earnings worldwide have since climbed to more than $172 million. It received three Academy Award nominations, including Best Supporting Actress for Meryl Streep.
Into the Woods, with a screenplay by Lapine and songs by Sondheim, follows the intertwined tales of several Brothers Grimm fairy-tale characters as they journey through the forest. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1987, earned 10 Tony nominations, and won three. A recording of the production, which starred two-time Tony winner Bernadette Peters as the Witch, is also available on Blu-ray DVD.
