The work is written by Kendrell Bowman and Anthony Wayne.
Broadway vet Jacqueline B. Arnold (Priscilla Queen of the Desert) will star in the new musical An Evening With Phyllis Hyman, running at The Actors' Temple Theatre January 28-29, and February 4-5.
Written by Kendrell Bowman and Anthony Wayne, the work tells the biographical story of Hyman, a 1981 Tony nominee for the Broadway show Sophisticated Ladies. A well-regarded soul-singer who also suffered from bipolar depression, she took her own life in 1995.
Bowman, who directs, and Wayne are the cocreators of the popular Mighty Real: A Fabulous Sylvester Musical, in which Arnold also appeared. The show has musical direction by Alonzo Harris and features Enga Davis and Larry Hendricks (vocals), as well as James Cage (trumpet), Darnell Howard (drums), Alex "Busby" Smith (bass), David Watson (saxophone, flute), and Harris (keyboards).
The production features costume design by Danielle "Dani Nichole" Eddins, lighting design by Stephanie P. Freed, and sound design by J. Rafael Carlotto.
