The new play has extended its run at the Cort Theatre.
Tony Award-winning actor Jason Alexander returns to Broadway on Tuesday, June 9 when he assumes the role of Norman Drexel in Larry David’s hit comedy Fish in the Dark at the Cort Theatre, producers have announced. Alexander steps into the role created by David in the comedy. David will play his final performance on Sunday, June 7.
The limited engagement of the production, originally scheduled through June 7, has been extended for six weeks through Sunday, July 19, producers also announced today.
A play about a death in the family, Fish in the Dark tells the story of Norman, a man dealing with the passing of his father, as well as his overbearing family. The comedy began previews on February 2 and opened March 5. Anna D. Shapiro directs.
Alexander was last seen on Broadway in 1990 in the play Accomplice. He is the winner of 1989 Drama Desk and Tony Awards for Leading Actor in a Musical for Jerome Robbins' Broadway. He collaborated with David on the television series Seinfeld.
Fish in the Dark costars Rita Wilson, Jayne Houdyshell, Rosie Perez, Ben Shenkman, Lewis J. Stadlen, Jake Cannavale, Marylouise Burke, Jerry Adler, Jenn Lyon, Jonny Orsini, Molly Ranson, Maria Elena Ramirez, Rachel Resheff, Joel Rooks, Jeff Still, Kenneth Tigar, and Richard Topol. The understudies are Ali Rose Dachis, Diane J. Findlay, Alexandra Henrikson, Kathleen McNenny, Daniel Molina, and Greg Stuhr.
The creative team includes Todd Rosenthal (scenic design), Ann Roth (costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), David Yazbek (original music), Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen (sound design), and Alan D'Angerio (wig design). Scott Rudin and Lloyd Braun serve as lead producers.
