The Broadway veteran will take on the role of Bob Hope in the hit off-Broadway musical.
Beginning October 14, Jeffry Denman joins the cast of Cagney at the Westside Theatre. he assumes the roles of Bob Hope (and others), originated by Jeremy Benton who takes a temporary leave of absence from the production through the year's end.
Denman, best known on Broadway for starring in the original company of Irving Berlin's White Christmas (Astaire Award nomination), played Munkustrap in the final cast of the original Broadway production of Cats. He was also featured in the original company of The Producers, which led him to pen the memoir A Year With The Producers. Denman's other Broadway and New York credits include Yank! At the York Theatre (Drama Desk nomination), Dream, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He currently serves as artistic director of Denman Theatre & Dance Company.
Denman joins Cagney company members Robert Creighton (who stars as James Cagney), Danette Holden, Josh Walden, Ellen Zolezzi, and Bruce Sabath.
Featuring a book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame), Cagney tells the story of legendary stage and screen star James Cagney, following the actor from his humble beginnings in New York City's Lower East Side through his rise as a vaudeville song-and-dance man to his superstardom in Hollywood. The production is directed by Bill Castellino with choreography by Joshua Bergasse.
