Jenna Russell, Hannah Waddingham to Star in Open Air’s Into the Woods; Additional Season Casting Announced

Hannah Waddingham and Jenna Russell will play the Witch and the Baker’s Wife, respectively, in Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods, to run August 5 – September 11 at the Open Air Theatre in London’s Regent Park, according to a report on Whatsonstage.com. Timothy Sheader will direct the production.

The company will also feature Marc Antolin, Valda Aviks, Billy Boyle, Gaye Brown, Sophie Caton, Alice Fearn, Mark Goldthorp, Amy Griffiths, Mark Hadfield, Amy Ellen Richardson, Ben Stott, and Gemma Wardle.

Waddingham received an Olivier Award nomination for her performance in Trevor Nunn’s revival of A Little Night Music. Russell won an Olivier for Sunday in the Park with George in the West End and was later seen in the production on Broadway.

The creative team will include musical supervisor and director Gareth Valentine, orchestrator Chris Walker, production designer Soutra Gilmour, lighting designer Jon Clark and sound designer Mike Walker.

In addition, the theater has announced casting for other pieces in its 2010 season. Arthur Miller’s The Crucible (May 24 – June 19) will feature Patrick O’Kane (John Proctor), Emma Cunniffe (Elizabeth Proctor), Emily Taaffe (Abigail) and Oliver Ford-Davies (Danforth), along with Lucy May Barker, Charlie Cameron, Philip Cumbus, Anni Domingo, Susan Engel, Christopher Fulford, Patrick Godfrey, Christopher Hunter, Bettrys Jones, Paul Kemp, Geoff Leesley, Alexandra Mathie, Gary Milner, Ellie Paskell, and Malcolm Rogers.

For Philip Franks’ production of The Comedy of Errors (June 24 – July 31), Daniel Weyman and Daniel Llewelyn-Williams will star as Antipholus of Syracuse and Ephesus respectively, and Anna-Jane Casey will play the Courtesan while fronting a live swing band. Also in the cast are: Jo Herbert, Alister Cameron, Josh Cohen, Joseph Kloska, Christopher Logan, Christopher Ravenscroft, Sophie Roberts, Veronica Roberts, David Shaw-Parker, Richard Warrick, and Faye Winter.

This production will run in repertory with Macbeth (July 3 – July 31), directed by Steve Marmion and featuring Simon Trinder (Macbeth), Golda Rosheuvel (Lady Macbeth), and Josephine Butler (Banquo).
