Robert O’Hara directs his play at Playwrights Horizons.
Playwrights Horizons has announced complete details for the upcoming New York premiere production of Robert O'Hara's Bootycandy. The play will run from August 22-October 12, with an opening night set for September 10. O'Hara will also direct.
Jessica Frances Dukes joins a cast that includes Phillip James Brannon, Jesse Pennington, Benja Kay Thomas, and Lance Coadie Williams. In the play, Sutter (Brannon) is on an odyssey through his childhood, in which a collection sketches portray the experience of growing up gay and black. Bootycandy had its world premiere at Washington, D.C.'s Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company in June 2011.
The production features scenic and costume design by Clint Ramos, lighting design by two-time Tony Award nominee Japhy Weideman, sound design by Lindsay Jones, and projection design by Aaron Rhyne.
As previously announced, the Playwrights Horizons season will also include Grand Concourse by Heidi Schreck, Pocatello by Samuel D. Hunter, Placebo by Melissa James Gibson, Iowa by Jenny Schwartz with music and lyrics by Todd Almond, and a new play to be announced by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Bruce Norris.
