Beautiful — The Carole King Musical celebrated its first Broadway anniversary on January 13, with a post-performance cake-cutting ceremony on stage at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. The musical, which features a book by Douglas McGrath and songs from the Gerry Goffin/Carole King/Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil catalog, officially opened on January 12, 2014.
A biomusical that follows the life and career of singer-songwriter Carole King and her colleagues Gerry Goffin, Barry Mann, and Cynthia Weil, Beautiful features songs including "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," "One Fine Day," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," among others. Directed by Marc Bruni, the production stars 2014 Tony winner Jessie Mueller in the title role, along with Scott J. Campbell as Gerry Goffin, Drama Desk winner Anika Larsen as Cynthia Weil, and Tony nominee Jarrod Spector as Barry Mann.
The musical will launch an American national tour in September 2015 and will open at London's Aldwych Theatre on the West End this coming February.
