Ten-time Grammy winner John Legend will take on the title role in NBC's upcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert!, set to air Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.
Legend joins a cast that also includes rock icon Alice Cooper, who will play King Herod. Additional casting for the telecast, which is directed by five-time Tony nominee David Leveaux, will be announced in the coming months. Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert! will be executive-produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Marc Platt, Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Legend, Mike Jackson, and Ty Stiklorius.
For the television broadcast, the legendary rock opera will be staged in front of a live audience at the Marcy Armory in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
