The Public Theater presents the annual festival of experimental theater from around the world.
The Public Theater kicked off its 12th annual Under the Radar Festival with a party on the festival's opening night, January 6. The event, which runs through January 17, comprises works by theater companies from across the United States and countries such as Belgium, Japan, and Rwanda. Mark Russell and Meiyin Wang serve as festival directors.
On hand to celebrate the festival were stage and screen favorites including John Leguizamo (Ghetto Klown) and Denis O'Hare (American Horror Story), among others. Check out TheaterMania's photos in the gallery below.
Highlights of the festival include the Obie-winning 600 Highwaymen's Employee of the Year, featuring songs by David Cale; Germinal, a production from Halory Goerger and Antoine Deefort in which four performers create the world from scratch; a music-and-movement-based piece from Rwanda called Samedi Détente; and Tanya Tagaq in Concert With Nanook of the North, a live concert during which Inuit throat singer Tagaq creates a soundscape for the controversial silent film Nanook of the North.
Additionally, Under the Radar will team up with Joe's Pub for a special series that highlights from the multidisciplinary works that populate the famed music venue. Productions include People Doing Math Live! by Andrew Scoville, David Tennent, and Joe Drymala; and Sister Sylvester's They Are Gone but Here Must I Remain.
