Leguizamo’s latest solo show comes to New York.
Emmy winner John Leguizamo will return to the stage in Latin History for Morons, a new one-man show that will play the Public Theater in spring 2017.
Tony Taccone will direct the production, which was inspired by Leguizamo’s observation that Latinos are essentially invisible in the standard American history curriculum. "Just imagine you’re a white kid and all of a sudden everybody’s Latin and everything they’re teaching you is Latin and you don’t hear anything about yourself or about your contributions," he said in a statement Leguizamo. "And it’s really weird and unfair because we had huge contributions."
Leguizamo's stage credits include Spic-O-Rama, Freak, Sexaholix…a Love Story, and Ghetto Klown. On-screen, he has appeared in Moulin Rouge, the Ice Age film trilogy, Carlito's Way, and many others. For his work, he has received Obie, Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and Emmy Awards.
Additional information about the production will be revealed in the coming months.
