They will star in the American premiere of Florian Zeller’s ”The Height of the Storm”, joining two other announced productions.
Manhattan Theatre Club has announced three plays for its 2019-20 season, with five more to be announced later.
On Broadway, the company will present the American premiere of Florian Zeller's The Height of the Storm, translated by Christopher Hampton, directed by Jonathan Kent, and starring Jonathan Pryce and Eileen Atkins. The play is described as follows: "For 50 years the lives of André and Madeleine have been filled with the everyday pleasures and unfathomable mysteries of an enduring marriage, until suddenly their life together begins to unravel, and this loving relationship is faced with the inevitability of change." Additional casting will be announced later. The production will begin previews at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on Tuesday, September 10, with opening night set for Tuesday, September 24.
Off-Broadway at New York City Center – Stage II, MTC will present the world premiere of Jeff Augustin's The New Englanders, directed by Saheem Ali. It is described as follows: "Can you ever really live the life you envisioned? In a mixed race family, a teenaged daughter and her dads are all trying to find happiness. Eisa wants to be the next Lauryn Hill and is struggling to break free of her sleepy New England town where she feels hopelessly trapped. Her fathers are being pulled in different directions of their own, one trying to re-connect with an old love, the other clinging to the path he always believed would be their future." Casting will be announced later. Previews will begin Tuesday, September 17, ahead of opening night on Wednesday, October 2.
Also off-Broadway at New York City Center – Stage I, MTC will, along with South Coast Repertory, copresent the world premiere of Poor Yella Rednecks, by Vietgone playwright Qui Nguyen. May Adrales will direct. The second in Nguyen's autobiographical trilogy, the play is described as "the story of a young family's attempt to put down roots in Arkansas, a place as different from Vietnam as it gets." Casting will be announced later. Previews will begin on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, ahead of opening night on Tuesday, June 2.
