Michael Greif, who directed Jonathan Larson’s rock opera on and off Broadway, will return to stage the production for television.
Principal casting has been announced for Fox's live staging of Jonathan Larson's Rent, airing January 27, 2019.
Rent will star Jordan Fisher as Mark Cohen, Brennin Hunt as Roger Davis, Tinashe as Mimi Marquez, Vanessa Hudgens as Maureen Johnson, Brandon Victor Dixon as Tom Collins, Valentina as Angel Dumott Schunard, Kiersey Clemons as Joanna Jefferson, and Mario as Benjamin Coffin III. Keala Settle will serve as the "Seasons of Love" soloist.
The television adaptation of Rent will be written by Kristoffer Diaz and directed by Michael Greif, who staged the musical in 1996 at New York Theatre Workshop and on Broadway, as well as its 2011 revival at New World Stages. Alex Rudzinski will serve as live television director. The creative team also includes Stephen Oremus (musical director), Sonya Tayeh (choreographer), Angela Wendt (costume designer), Al Gurdon (lighting designer), and Jason Sherwood (scenic design).
Producers include 20th Century Fox Television, Marc Platt, Adam Siegel, Julie Larson, Allan Larson and Revolution Studios' Vince Totino, Scott Hemming, and Marla Levine.
