Karen Olivo and More to Star in Chicago Production of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Hamilton

Tony Award winner Karen Olivo will return to the stage this fall in the Chicago mounting of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony-winning musical Hamilton, the Chicago Tribune reports. Olivo, who starred in Miranda's musical In the Heights and costarred with him in the 2014 Encores! Off-Center production of tick, tick… BOOM!, will take on the role of Angelica Schuyler.

According to the publication, the company will be headed by current Broadway cast member Miguel Cervantes, with Tony nominee Alexander Gemignani (Violet) as King George III. The cast is also set to include Ari Afsar (Eliza Hamilton), Chris Lee (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Joseph Morales (Alexander Hamilton alternate), Jose Ramos (John Laurens/Phillip Hamilton), Wallace Smith (Hercules Mulligan/James Madison), and Samantha Marie Ware (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds). Casting for the role of Aaron Burr is still to be announced.

In preparation for his Chicago debut as Alexander Hamilton, Cervantes will play the role on Broadway July 13 (matinee), July 18, and July 25.

Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America.

The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a book and score by Tony winner Miranda, with music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.

The Chicago production begins at the PrivateBank Theatre beginning September 27.
