Kennedy Center Announces 2016-17 Theater Season

The D.C. venue partners with the Public Theater to present the Richard Nelson trilogy ”The Gabriels”.

The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., has announced its theater lineup for the 2016-17 season.

In association with New York's Public Theater, the D.C. venue will present The Gabriels: Election Year in the Life of One Family. A three-play series written and directed by Tony Award winner Richard Nelson, The Gabriels shines light on the 2016 political season. One of the plays, Hungry, is now running off-Broadway at the Public.

The season will also include Needles and Opium (from Canada’s Ex Machina), written by director Robert Lepage; Antigonón, Un contingente épico from Cuba’s Teatro el Público, directed by Carlos Díaz; Petrol Station by Kuwait’s Sulayman Al Bassam; Battlefield (France’s Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord), a new work based on The Mahabharata by legendary director Peter Brook and his collaborators Marie-Hélène Estienne and Jean-Claude Carrière; and Russia’s Maly Drama Theatre's production of Chekhov's Three Sisters.

The Kennedy Center also adds a roster of Broadway hits to its season, including The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Into the Woods, Wicked, Chicago, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music, Cabaret, and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s The King and I.
