Kerstin Anderson and A.J. Shively to Star in J.M. Barrie and G.B. Shaw Plays

Maryann Plunkett and David Garrison will also star in a one-night-only double bill of Barrie’s ”The New Word” and Shaw’s ”O’Flaherty V.C.”

Gingold Theatrical Group has announced that the next presentation in its 13th season of Project Shaw will be a double bill of J.M. Barrie's The New Word and George Bernard Shaw's O'Flaherty V.C. The performance will take place on Monday, September 24, at Leonard Nimoy Thalia at Peter Norton Symphony Space.

Kerstin Anderson (My Fair Lady), David Garrison (Wicked), Maryann Plunkett (Me and My Girl), and A.J. Shively (Bright Star) will star in the one-night-only presentation. Stephen Brown-Fried (Henry VI) will direct.

The New Word, according to a press release, "takes place on the night before a young man is leaving to join the army in WWI. It's the last chance for a family to come together with some kind of understanding before the son leaves, possibly never to return."

O'Flaherty V.C. is described as "a comic one-act play written during World War I in which an Irish soldier in the British army returning home after winning the Victoria Cross. The play was written at a time when the British government was attempting to promote recruitment in Ireland, while many Irish republicans expressed opposition to a war to defend the British Empire."
