The Tony-winning Broadway hit begins performances tonight.
The Tony-winning Broadway hit Kinky Boots starts its run tonight at 5th Avenue Theatre.
Inspired by true events, the musical begins in a gentleman’s shoe factory where Charlie Price is struggling under the weight of his inheritance. To live up to his father’s expectations, he has to carry on the family business of Price & Son. When sales start to slump, Charlie is rescued by the unexpected arrival of Lola, a fabulous performer in need of some sturdy new stilettos. Lola turns Charlie’s world around and sends it to the catwalks of Milan. While changing minds through their unlikely friendship, the two might just change the world.
With music and lyrics by Grammy- and Tony-winning pop icon Cyndi Lauper and book by four-time Tony winner Harvey Fierstein, the musical is directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell. The cast features J. Harrison Ghee as Lola, Adam Kaplan as Charlie Price, Tiffany Engen as Lauren, Aaron Walpole as Don, Charissa Hogeland as Nicola, and Jim J. Bullock as George.
The creative team includes Tony Award nominee David Rockwell (set design), Tony Award winner Gregg Barnes (costume design), Tony Award winner Kenneth Posner (lighting design), Tony Award winner John Shivers (sound design), Josh Marquette (hair design), and Randy Houston Mercer (makeup design).
Performances will run through May 8.
