Harnick was presented with the Albert Bergeret Living Legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan Award.
Tony Award-winning lyricist Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me) was honored by the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players at their annual gala on Wednesday, May 2, at the Players Club. Harnick was presented with the Albert Bergeret Living Legacy of Gilbert & Sullivan Award.
Albert Bergeret presented Harnick with the award named in his honor. Bergeret founded NYGASP in 1974 and has served as both artistic director and general manager. Other attendees and well-wishers included Laura Benanti, Joel Grey, Elaine May, and designer David Rockwell.
Last year's tribute to director Hal Prince, Prince of Broadway, featured many works of Harnick. In 2016 Harnick was represented on Broadway by Scott Ellis production of She Loves Me at Studio 54 and the Bartlett Sher-directed Fiddler on the Roof at the Broadway Theater. Other Broadway credits include The Apple Tree, Cyrano — The Musical, Jerome Robbins' Broadway, and Fiorello!
