Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), Michael Esper (The Lyons), and Michael Shannon (Grace) will star in a one-night-only reading of Craig Lucas’ dark comedy Reckless, a production of The Indigo Theatre Project. The reading will be held on October 28 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater and will benefit Safe Horizon, an organization that helps crisis victims become survivors and restore their lives.

Ambrose leads the company as Rachel, a housewife who discovers on Christmas Eve that her husband (Esper) has hired a hit man to kill her. She makes her escape out a window and embarks upon a series of misadventures. Along the way, her unlikely companions become a physical therapist (Shannon), his mute girlfriend (Quincy Tyler Bernstine), a bookkeeper (Miriam Shor), a charity director (Daniel Breaker), and a series of doctors (Kathy Najimy). As in fully staged productions of the work, each actor, with the exception of Ambrose, will play a variety of roles.

Reckless is produced by Indigo Theatre Project’s cofounding artistic directors Nick Gereffi and Rachel Sussman, along with Allison Bressi (line producer) and Shoshana Feinstein (associate producer). Winnie Y. Lok serves as stage manager, with Catherine Lynch as assistant stage manager, and Nicholas Foster as technical director.
