The company that produced ”Wicked: The Grimmerie” will bring Miranda’s musical to bookshelves.
Grand Central Publishing has acquired the text of Lin-Manuel Miranda's award-winning new musical Hamilton and will publish the work in hardcover and ebook form in April 2016. The book will be produced by Melcher Media, creators of Broadway books including Wicked: The Grimmerie and the hardcover Rent "bible."
The book version of Hamilton will integrate the story of Alexander Hamilton's life with a behind-the-scenes look at the show's creation, Miranda's annotated lyrics, photos, artifacts, interviews, and essays. It will be designed to look like an object from Hamilton's era.
Hamilton opens at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on August 6 after a run at the Public Theater. Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America.
Miranda takes on the title role alongside Leslie Odom Jr. (Aaron Burr), Drama Desk Award winner Renée Elise Goldsberry (Angelica Schuyler), Phillipa Soo (Eliza Hamilton), Jonathan Groff (King George), Daveed Diggs (Marquis De Lafayette, Thomas Jefferson), Christopher Jackson (George Washington), Anthony Ramos (John Laurens, Phillip Hamilton), Okieriete Onaodowan (Hercules Mulligan, James Madison), and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Peggy Shuyler, Maria Reynolds). Javier Muñoz plays Alexander Hamilton once a week.
