New York City
The announcement comes on the heels of plans for a sit-down production in Chicago.
Plans for a national tour of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical Hamilton have been announced. The tour will kick off at San Francisco's SHN Orpheum Theatre in March of 2017, where it will play for 21 weeks before heading to Los Angeles' Hollywood Pantages Theatre for a run from August 11-December 30. Other cities planned for the tour have not yet been announced.
The tour will run in addition to a previously announced Chicago run of Hamilton, which will play at the PrivateBank Theatre beginning September 27. That production will sit down for at least a year in Chicago before touring the country.
Directed by Thomas Kail and inspired by Ron Chernow's biography Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton explores the life of the American founding father and first Secretary of the Treasury, as well as his experiences as an orphan of the British West Indies who immigrated to the 13 Colonies and helped shape the United States of America.
The show, which had its world premiere at the Public Theater, features a book and score by Tony winner Miranda, with music direction and orchestrations by Alex Lacamoire, choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Howell Binkley, and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.
