Lucie Arnaz has been announced as Broadway's next Berthe in the Tony-winning revival of Pippin. The stage veteran and daughter of comedy duo Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz is currently playing the role in the Pippin national tour, which opens this week at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco. She will replace Priscilla Lopez in the role for a limited run, from October 9-November 9.
Arnaz's past Broadway credits include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Lost in Yonkers, and They're Playing Our Song, for which she earned a Drama Desk Award nomination.
The revival of Pippin opened at Broadway's Music Box Theatre on April 25, 2013. The Tony-winning production of Stephen Schwartz and Roger O. Hirson's classic coming-of-age musical features the death-defying tricks of a contemporary circus with choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse, and circus creations by Gypsy Snider of the circus troupe Les 7 doigts de la main. The cast is currently led by Carly Hughes (Leading Player), Kyle Dean Massey (Pippin), Charlotte d'Amboise (Fastrada), Rachel Bay Jones (Catherine), and John Dossett (Charles).
