Lyric Stage Company Presents Sondheim on Sondheim

Sondheim on Sondheim starts its run this evening at Lyric Stage Company.

This multimedia show takes a close look at the famed songwriter using his own lyrics and music. Featuring songs from 19 of Sondheim’s shows, produced over 62 years, eight musical-theater artists perform everything from well-known hits to Sondheim rarities. Interspersed in these performances is video commentary from the artist himself, providing an intimate look at how he thought about writing songs alongside some of his most masterful, award-winning productions.

Conceived by James Lapine, the show features the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim. Spiro Veloudos directs. The cast features Leigh Barrett, Mala Bhattacharya, Maritza Bostic, Christopher Chew, Aimee Doherty, Davron S. Monroe, Sam Simahk, and Patrick Varner.

The creative team includes Jonathan Goldberg (music director), Ilyse Robbins (choreography and musical staging), David Towlun (set design), Chris Hudacs (lighting design), Gail Astrid Buckley (costume design), and Seaghan McKay (projection design).

Performances will run through February 20.
