Shakespeare’s classic drama begins performances this evening on the F. Otto Haas Stage.
Arden Theatre Company's presentation of Macbeth begins tonight at the F. Otto Haas Stage. Based on the classic play by William Shakespeare, the show focuses on Macbeth, the Thane of Glamis and later Cawdor, a successful general in the king’s army. After hearing a prophecy from three witches that he will be king, Macbeth’s ambition is stirred. Provoked into action by his wife, Lady Macbeth, the pair begins their dangerous descent into villainy. Macbeth’s actions lead to tragedy as he plunges Scotland into civil war.
The play is directed by Alexander Burns and features Michael Ian Merrill Peakes as Macbeth, Judith Lightfoot Clarke as Lady Macbeth, Ben Dibble as Banquo, and Terrence MacSweeny as Macduff.
"When I mentioned the idea of directing Macbeth with Ian in the lead, everyone was on board," said director Alexander Burns. "I have seen Ian on stage many times and have always wanted to work with him. His mastery of the language, as well as his swagger and emotional presence are great for Macbeth."
The creative team includes Solomon Weisbard (light design), Rosemarie E. McKelvey (costume design), Brian Sidney Bembridge (set design), James Sugg (sound design), and Paul Dennhardt (fight director).
Performances will run through April 19.
