The Vanguard Residency celebrates the career of a singular artist.
Joeʼs Pub announced Margaret Cho as the 2024-2025 Vanguard Artist-in-Residence.
This artist development program is a series of live performances that honors an artist who has significantly influenced the artistic community of Joeʼs Pub and American culture at large. Cho is honored for her career as a comedian, actor, and musician as well as her unwavering dedication to anti-racism, anti-bullying, and gay rights activism. She will spend a year with Joeʼs Pub curating programming from artists who inspire her.
Cho’s first curated show is on October 25, when comedian and musician Charlene Kaye will perform her solo show Tiger Daughter — or How I Brought My Immigrant Mother Ultimate Shame, which combines music, comedy and absurdity. On January 24 and 25, Cho will host Margaretʼs Children, a showcase of comedians Nori Reed, Robin Tran, and Sabrina Wu (Joy Ride). In the spring, Choʼs curation will extend to a live recording of the Dopey Podcast, on which she will be a guest, on March 11, and a solo show from comedian Youngmi Mayer on April 4.
More shows will be announced at a later date.
