The Leonard Berstein-Stephen Sondheim musical begins performances at Paper Mill Playhouse.
Paper Mill Playhouse's production of West Side Story began performances June 1. It runs through June 26.
Leading the company are Matt Doyle (The Book of Mormon) as Tony, Belinda Allyn (Allegiance) as Maria, Natalie Cortez (Here Lies Love) as Anita, German Alexander (Little Fish) as Bernardo, Mikey Winslow (On the Town) as Riff, Maria Briggs, Michael Bullard, Spencer Clark, John Michael Fiumara, Kevin C. Loomis, Dean Andre de Luna, William Ragsdale, Jay Russell, Parker Slaybaugh, Jack Sippel, Brendan Stimson, Craig Waletzko, and Cody Williams.
The ensemble is made up of Danny Bevins, Victoria Casillo, Damian Chambers, Philip Colgan, Brittany Conigatti, Lauren Csete, Tenealle Farragher, Lisa Finegold, Jordan Isadore, Ilda Mason, Kat Nejat, Kevin Michael Raponey, Alexia Sky, Summerisa Bell Stevens, Jayme Wappel, and James Allen Washington.
Paper Mill Playhouse's producing artistic director Mark S. Hoebee helms the production, with Alex Sanchez re-creating Jerome Robbins' original choreography. West Side Story is based on a conception by Jerome Robbins and features a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
The creative team includes Steve Orich (musical director), James Youmans (scenic design), Charlie Morrison (lighting design), David C. Woolard (costume design), Kelly Tighe (scenic coordinator), Dana Burkart (costume coordinator), and Amanda Miller (hair, wig, and makeup design).
