The children of Broadway star in a new revival of this classic musical.
The York Theatre Company held an open rehearsal of its upcoming all-children production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown on May 18. Produced in association with Van Dean, Tony Heyes/Mia Moravis, and Sister Productions, the limited engagement will run from May 24-June 26, with an official May 31 press opening.
The company is made up of Joshua Colley (Elf) as Charlie Brown, Gregory Diaz (School of Rock) as Schroeder, Aidan Gemme (Finding Neverland) as Snoopy, Milly Shapiro (Matilda The Musical) as Sally, Mavis Simpson-Ernst (Evita) as Lucy, and Jeremy T. Villas (Kinky Boots) as Linus. Graydon Peter Yosowitz (The Odyssey) will perform the role of Charlie Brown from June 1-7.
Directed by the York's associate artistic director Michael Unger with music direction by Eric Svejcar, the production is based on a concert that was presented at Feinstein's/54 Below by Van Dean of Broadway Records and Jennifer Tepper.
You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown features a book, music, and lyrics by Clark Gesner, with additional material by Andrew Lippa and Michael Mayer. The musical made its Broadway debut in 1971 and received a 1999 Tony-nominated revival directed by Mayer. Roger Bart (Disaster!) and Kristin Chenoweth (Wicked) both earned Tony Awards for their performances as Snoopy and Sally, respectively. The production also starred Ilana Levine (Lucy), Stanley Wayne Mathis (Schroeder), Anthony Rapp (Charlie Brown), and B.D. Wong (Linus).
