The record-breaking solo comedy’s first national tour launches on the West Coast.
The first national tour of Jonathan Tolins' hit solo comedy, Buyer & Cellar, begins performances at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles this evening, featuring the show's original Drama Desk Award-winning star Michael Urie (Ugly Betty). The production will offer performances for a strictly limited engagement, running through August 17. It will then continue on to a run at San Francisco's SHN Curran Theatre from August 19-31, followed by a short run at the Dallas City Performance Hall from September 3-6. The tour will then stop at Toronto's Panasonic Theatre from November 12-30, with casting to be announced.
Directed by Stephen Brackett, Buyer & Cellar had its world premiere in April 2013 at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater. The show then transferred to the Barrow Street Theatre, where it opened on June 24, 2013. When the Barrow Street engagement closes on July 27, it will have played eight previews and over 450 regular performances.
Currently starring Barrett Foa (NCIS: Los Angeles, Avenue Q), the solo show tells the imaginary story of an out-of-work L.A. actor who takes a job at the real-life, private, high-end mall that exists beneath Barbra Streisand's Malibu compound.
