Birbiglia transfers his solo comedy show to the Cort Theatre for a nine-week run.
Comedian Mike Birbiglia celebrates the Broadway opening of his latest solo show The New One tonight at the Cort Theatre. The Broadway mounting, which began performances on October 25, follows Birbiglia's off-Broadway engagement at the Cherry Lane Theatre.
Written by Mike Birbiglia, with additional writing by Jennifer Hope Stein, The New One is a new play directed by Seth Barrish with set design for Broadway by Beowulf Boritt, lighting design by Aaron Copp, and sound design by Leon Rothenberg.
"The truth is I try not to tell people anything about my new show because, I find, the less you know about the show the more you will enjoy it," said Birbiglia in a statement. "My goal is to make as many people laugh as possible and ideally several hundred will cry."
The production marks Birbiglia's Broadway debut as both a playwright and performer. Performances will run for nine weeks only through January 20, 2019.
