The new play by Carla Ching comes to the Atlantic Theater for its New York premiere.
Atlantic Theater Company has announced casting for the New York premiere of Nomad Motel, written by Carla Ching and directed by Ed Sylvanus Iskandar. Performances will run at Atlantic Stage 2 May 22-June 23, with an official opening on June 3.
The cast of Nomad Motel will feature Molly Griggs (Hello, Dolly!), Christopher Larkin (Fast Company), Samantha Mathis (Billions), and Andrew Pang (After the Quake). Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The story is described as follows: "In the not-so-sunny side of California, Alix bounces between motel rooms, taking care of her brothers for her mostly MIA mother. Her classmate Mason is a budding songwriter trying to keep off the radar of his absent father in Hong Kong. Together, they must learn to scrape by without giving up their dreams. This New York premiere is a surprising tale of kids raising themselves and making something out of nothing in the land of plenty."
The creative team includes scenic design by Yu-Hsuan Chen, costume design by Loren Shaw, lighting design by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound design and original compositions by Emily Gardner Xu Hall, fight direction by Ryan-James Hatanaka, and dialect coaching by Joy Lanceta Coronel.
Nomad Motel was presented as part of Atlantic's 2017 Asian American MixFest, a festival of new plays exploring and celebrating the wealth of diverse stories in the American theater, and bringing these artists into the Atlantic family.
