Most Broadway Shows to Resume on Wednesday, October 31

The sun will indeed come out tomorrow when some of Broadway’s bright lights are re-lit and assorted performances resume following Hurricane Sandy.

Broadway performances that will resume on October 31 include Annie (matinee and evening); The Book of Mormon (evening); Chaplin (matinee and evening); Cyrano de Bergerac (matinee and evening); An Enemy of the People (matinee); Evita (evening); Grace (matinee and evening); The Heiress (matinee and evening); Jersey Boys (evening); The Mystery of Edwin Drood (matinee and evening); Nice Work if You Can Get It (matinee and evening); Once (matinee and evening); The Performers (evening); Peter and the Starcatcher (matinee); The Phantom of the Opera (matinee and evening); Rock of Ages (evening); Scandalous (evening); War Horse (matinee and evening); Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (matinee); and Wicked (evening).

Disney’s productions of The Lion King and Mary Poppins have been cancelled on October 31 and are will resume on November 1. Chicago will resume performances on November 1.

The October 31 matinees of Evita and Scandalous have also been cancelled. The matinee of Jersey Boys is still to be determined.

Bring It On: The Musical, Newsies, and Mamma Mia! do not have performances scheduled for Wednesday.

Roundabout Theatre Company is offering $20 in-person tickets to the matinee and evening performances of Cyrano de Bergerac and The Mystery of Edwin Drood, with the presentation of your Metro Card. Their Off-Broadway production of If There Is I Haven’t Found it Yet, will also resume with the matinee performance, and the black-box production of Bad Jews will play its scheduled 7pm show (there is no matinee).

The Duffy Square TKTS booth will reopen Wednesday morning.

Assorted uptown Off-Broadway (and even some Off-Off-Broadway) performances will resume in the afternoon, as well. That list includes Lincoln Center Theater’s Disgraced, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

Downtown, power outages that the storm caused have caused the cancellation of Checkers, the new Douglas McGrath play at the Vineyard Theatre], Classic Stage Company’s Ivanov and all shows at the Public Theater until further notice.

The Metropolitan Opera will resume performances on October 31 with Thomas Ades’s [[show:194825The Tempest, directed by Robert LePage. 54 Below will also reopen with Melissa Errico‘s concert followed by Lance Roberts’ Cadavaret: Broadway’s Halloween Cabaret.

Brian Stokes Mitchell‘s Simply Broadway concert, a benefit for the Actors Fund scheduled for October 31 at Alice Tully Hall, has been rescheduled for November 7.

The theater district has been dark since the evening of Sunday, October 28 when the New York State government shut down subway, bus, and commuter railroad service in anticipation of the storm. Bus service is slowly resuming, though the resumption of subway and railroad service is still up in the air.
