Diana Oh’s solo show tackles the patriarchy at Rattlestick Theater.
Diana Oh's {My Lingerie Play} 2017 celebrated opening night on Monday, October 9. The production is the ninth and final in creator Oh's series of installations, all referred to as {My Lingerie Play}, and is set for a limited run through October 28. Orion Stephanie Johnstone codirects.
The production is described as follows: "What drives an artist to stand in her black corset in Times Square on a soapbox? It began at 17 with her first shoplifted bra. Over the course of this unfiltered and soul-baring event, Diana Oh's personal collection of unmentionables comes on and off as she and her band ignite the audience to create a saner, safer, more courageous world for us all.
{My Lingerie Play} 2017 is a play, a protest, a concert, and an installation all at once.
Diana and her band explore sexual and gender politics through mainstream culture’s relationship to the female and gender-queer body. This will be the final installation in a collection of 10 new visual and performance installations for 2017 as supported by the Venturous Theater Fund of Tides Foundation."
Joining Oh onstage are band members Ryan McCurdy (drums), Matt Park (guitar), and Rocky Vega (bass). The creative team includes music direction from McCurdy, set design by Carolyn Mraz, light design by Kate McGee, and sound design by Brendan Aanes.
