Melia Bensussen will direct Melinda Lopez’s new adaptation of Federico García Lorca’s 1934 play.
The cast and creative team has been announced for the Huntington Theatre Company's new production of Yerma, presented in a new adaptation of Federico García Lorca's 1934 play by Melinda Lopez. Melia Bensussen directs. Performances will begin May 31 at the South End / Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA and will run through June 30.
Nadine Malouf will play the title role, with the rest of the cast featuring Christian Barillas (ABC's Modern Family), Alexandra Illescas, Evelyn Howe (Showtime's SMILF), Ernie Pruneda (Sister Act on Broadway), Alma Cuervo (On Your Feet!), Marianna Bassham, and Jacqui Parker. The production will also feature onstage performances by local Boston percussionist and Berklee College of Music alum Fabio Pirozzolo, with renowned flamenco guitarist and Boston Conservatory graduate Juanito Pascual.
The creative team will include Misha Shields (choreography), Mark Bennett (music and co-sound design), Cameron Anderson (set design), Brian J. Lilienthal (lighting design), and Brendan F. Doyle (co-sound design).
Yerma, a young wife, wants nothing more than to have a child and become a devoted mother. As she watches her friends start their families, she begins to question her own value as a woman. Her desperate desire turns into an all-consuming obsession with devastating consequences.
