Downtown theater company Naked Angels will present the world premiere of SeaWife, a new folk concert play cocreated by Seth Moore and indie-folk rock sextet the Lobbyists for a limited engagement from June 23-July 19. SeaWife will have an official opening at South Street Seaport Museum‘s Melville Gallery on June 25. Naked Angels artistic director Liz Carlson directs.
SeaWife is described as "a modern theatrical event that envelops its audience in a dark original tale marked with romance, tragedy, and spirits on the high seas." The plot follows Percy, a young sailor living during the golden age of the American whaling industry, as he journeys through port cities and on sea vessels.
The play features an original score of folk instrumentation, performed by actor-musicians Tommy Crawford, Eloïse Eonnet, Alex Grubbs, Will Turner, Tony Vo, and Douglas Waterbury-Tieman (the Lobbyists) with Raymond Sicam III.
The design team includes set designer Jason Sherwood, costume designer Loren Shaw, lighting designer Jake DeGroot, and sound designer Dave Sanderson, with puppet design by James Ortiz.
