The starry revival will also feature John Goodman, Sherie Rene Scott, and more.
The Front Page, a 1928 comedy by Ben Hecht and Charles MacArthur, will return to Broadway this fall in a production directed by Jack O'Brien and produced by Scott Rudin. The announcement follows recent rumors of a revival.
The cast will be led by two-time Tony winner Nathan Lane as the editor Walter Burns and Mad Men star John Slattery as reporter Hildy Johnson. The star-studded cast will also include John Goodman, Rosemary Harris, Jefferson Mays, and Sherie Rene Scott. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
The production is slated for a limited five-month Broadway run, beginning previews on Tuesday, September 20, with an official opening October 20, and playing a limited engagement through Sunday, February 5, 2017. The theater has not yet been announced.
The play is set in the Press Room of the Criminal Courts Building in Chicago. It follows Hildy Johnson, a reporter with The Herald Examiner whose plans to break away from journalism and go on his belated honeymoon are foiled by the appearance of an escaped convict.
The Front Page was first produced on Broadway in 1928 in a production staged by George S. Kaufman. It has since been revived in 1946, 1969, and most recently in a 1986 production directed by Jerry Zaks and featuring John Lithgow. Scott Rudin Productions will produce the 2016 revival.
