PigPen Theatre Co.’s ”The Hunter and The Bear” will be among the musicals presented.
National Alliance for Musical Theatre has announced the lineup for its Songwriters Showcase and the Songwriters Cabaret at the 27th Annual Festival of New Musicals on October 15 and 16. Both events will take place at New World Stages.
The Songwriters Showcase (October 15), which is an informal introduction to new musicals currently in development, will welcome each creative team to talk about their show accompanied by two songs performed by Broadway talent. The event's host and casting are to be announced. The showcase will feature The Hunter and The Bear, created by PigPen Theatre Co.; Mortality Play by Scotty Arnold and Alana Jacoby; Theory of Relativity by Neil Bartram and Brian Hill; and Zombies on Broadway by Marshall Pailet and Jason Michael Snow.
The Songwriters Cabaret gives songwriters the opportunity to highlight selections from their recent and in-progress shows and takes place in the Green Room Lounge. On October 15, the event will feature Brian Lowdermilk and Kait Kerrigan (The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown, Party Worth Crashing) as well as Kim Sherman and Darrah Cloud (Heartland, Makeover). The October 16 event will include Douglas J. Cohen (Barnstormer, Glimmerglass, The Gig), and Ty Defoe and Tidtaya Sinutoke (Clouds Are Pillows for the Moon, In the Cards).
Both the showcase and cabaret are open to registered attendees with a Premiere, Select or Access Pass. For the showcase, there will be a day-of standby line for the general public for free admission. The cabaret will have a day-of standby line for Access Pass holders only due to space limitations.
These two special events join the previously announced mainstage festival lineup, which includes Costs of Living (book, music, and lyrics by Timothy Huang); Imagine Harry (music and lyrics by Will Van Dyke, book and lyrics by Jeff Talbott); The Last Queen of Canaan (book by Harrison David Rivers, lyrics by Rebekah Greer Melocik, music by Jacob Yandura); Legendale (music by Andrea Daly, book and lyrics by Jeff Bienstock, story by Bienstock and Daly); Lift (book and lyrics by Daryl Lisa Fazio, music by Aaron McAllister); Noir (music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik, book and lyrics by Kyle Jarrow); On the Eve (story by Michael Federico, Shawn Magill and Seth Magill, music and lyrics by Shawn Magill and Seth Magill, book by Michael Federico); and Othello: The Remix (book, music, and lyrics by the Q Brothers).
