NBC will present a live broadcast of a new production of The Sound of Music, to be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
The broadcast will be based on the original, 1959 Broadway musical, which features a score by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II and a script based on the book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It will not be a remake of the popular 1965 film version, which starred Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer.
Casting and a timetable for the production will be announced in the coming weeks.
