The work will have its world premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company.
The Penitent, a new play by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet, will have its world premiere at the Atlantic Theater Company beginning Monday, February 8. The drama will open February 27 for a run through March 19. Neil Pepe directs.
Featuring Lawrence Gillard Jr., Chris Bauer, Jordan Lage, and Rebecca Pidgeon, the play is described as follows: "A renowned psychiatrist (Bauer) is asked to testify on behalf of a young patient. When he refuses, his career, ethics and faith are thrown into question."
The Penitent will feature scenic design by Tim Mackabee, costume design by Laura Bauer, and lighting design by Don Holder.
Mamet is also the author of the plays China Doll, The Anarchist, Race, November, Oleanna, Speed-the-Plow, Glengarry Glen Ross, and American Buffalo, among many others.
