Fiddler on the Roof begins performances tonight at New Repertory Theatre at Arsenal Center for the Arts
Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick, and Joseph Stein's 1965 Tony Award-winning musical is the story of milkman Tevye as he clings to his Jewish faith in a world that's quickly spinning out of his control. Tevye, the father of five daughters, struggles as one by one they choose husbands that move further and further away from his faith. Further uncertainty is brought on Tevye's family as the Tsar issues an edict evicting the Jewish population from his village. Austin Pendleton directs. Previously he played the role of Motel the tailor in the original Broadway production.
Jeremiah Kissel stars as Tevye. He is joined by Victoria Britt (Chava), Amelia Broome (Golde), Gabriela Ettinger (Shprintze), Abby Goldfarb (Tzeitel), Sarah Oakes Muirhead (Hodel), Eli Raskin (Constable), Bobbie Steinbach (Yente), Patrick Varner (Motel, the tailor), Carly Williams (Bielke), and David Wohl (Lazar Wolf, the butcher).
Rounding out the ensemble are Adam Lokken Barrameda, Seamus Doyle, Dashiell Evett, Leo Galletto, Gabriel Graetz, Ricardo D. Holguin, Dan Prior, Jared Reinfeldt, Ben Salus, Alyssa Rae Surrette, Dylan C. Wack, Samuel L. Warton, and Jocelin Weiss.
The production team includes F. Wade Russo (musical director/conductor), Kelli Edwards (choreographer), Stephen Dobay (scenic designer), Kathleen Doyle (costume designer), Keith Parham (lighting designer), Anna Burnham (stage manager), and Becca Freifeld (assistant stage manager).
