New York City
The festival runs at theaters across the city through August 6.
The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) opened last night, Monday, July 10, with a celebration at Hudson Terrace. Broadway stars of today and tomorrow were in attendance to help kick off the 14th year of producing new musicals and concert readings at locations across midtown Manhattan. Check out photos from the party in the gallery below.
This year's festival includes 20 full productions, 13 concert productions, and 10 readings of new works. In addition the calendar also includes Women on Note, a concert series that celebrates female, queer, and trans artists who are changing the landscape of musical theater, as well as the NYMF Student Leadership Program (SLP), which concludes with a concert written and performed by students.
After appearing in NYMF, more than 97 shows have gone on to productions on and off-Broadway, in regional theaters in all 50 states, and in more than 20 countries worldwide. Festival alumni have received a wide array of awards including the Tony Award and the Pulitzer Prize. In 2013, NYMF received a special Drama Desk Award in recognition of its work "creating and nurturing new musical theater, ensuring the future of this essential art form."
