MacKenzie Mauzy (Next to Normal) will join the cast of Disney’s upcoming movie version of the Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods, according to Deadline. Mauzy will star alongside previously announced big-name cast members Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Anna Kendrick, and Chris Pine. Current Broadway hunk Billy Magnussen is also likely to be part of the film.
Into The Woods, with a book by James Lapine and music and lyrics by the legendary Stephen Sondheim, follows several Brothers Grimm fairy-tale characters as plots become intertwined during their journeys through the forest. The musical premiered on Broadway in 1987 with two-time Tony winner and Sondheim regular Bernadette Peters (Follies) originating the role of the Witch.
Mauzy, whose television credits include The Bold and the Beautiful and Guiding Light, will play the role of Rapunzel.
Into The Woods will be released in late 2014.
