NY Premiere of Robert Icke’s The Doctor, Starring Juliet Stevenson, Sets Full Cast

Full casting has been announced for the New York premiere of Robert Icke’s West End hit The Doctor, starring Juliet Stevenson and running June 3-August 19 at the Park Avenue Armory.

Stevenson reprises a performance she originated at the Almeida Theatre in 2019. From the Almeida production, she will be joined by Christopher Osikanlu Colquhoun, Mariah Louca, Daniel Rabin, Naomi Wirthner, and drummer Hanna Ledwidge, all of whom also appeared in the show in the West End in 2022. Rounding out the cast are fellow West End cast members Doña Croll, Juliet Garricks, Preeya Kalidas, and John MacKay, alongside Jaime Schwarz.

Written and directed by Icke, freely adapted from Professor Bernhardi by Arthur Schnitzler, the piece received a five-star review from WhatsOnStage’s Sarah Crompton, who described it as “an astonishing, gripping evening” during its 2019 Almeida Theatre run. The play, which marked Icke’s final show as an associate director at the north London venue, follows the story of a young woman who is dying of sepsis, with her doctor refusing to allow a priest into the room.

The production has designs by Hildegard Bechtler, lighting by Natasha Chivers, sound and composition by Tom Gibbons, and casting by Julia Horan.
