British actress Ruth Wilson makes her Broadway debut at Manhattan Theatre Club.
Two-time Olivier Award winner Ruth Wilson will join the previously announced Jake Gyllenhaal in the American premiere of Nick Payne's Constellations at Broadway's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. The drama, directed by Michael Longhurst, is presented as a coproduction of Manhattan Theatre Club and London's Roal Court Theatre, where the work premiered in 2012.
Wilson received her Oliviers for performances in the recent West End revivals of Anna Christie and A Streetcar Named Desire. On the London stage, she has appeared in Gorky's Philistines and Through a Glass Darkly. On television, she has starred on Luther and received BAFTA and Golden Globe Award nominations for her work in the BBC miniseries Jane Eyre.
The two-character drama explores the relationship between Roland (Gyllenhaal), a beekeeper, and Marianne (Wilson), a quantum physicist, through the concept of the multiverse theory, where several scenarios can coexist at the same time. Gyllenhaal, Wilson, Payne, and Longhurst all make their Broadway debuts with the production.
The creative team for Constellations includes Tom Scutt (scenic and costume design), Lee Curran (lighting design), David McSeveney (sound design), and Lucy Cullingford (movement direction).
