The Brooklyn Academy of Music has announced plans for its 2015 winter/spring season, which will feature theatrical highlights including U.S. and New York premieres.
Beginning February 5 (and opening February 12) BAM and Scott Rudin will present the Goodman Theatre‘s revival of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh. Directed by longtime Goodman Artistic Director Robert Falls and starring Tony Award-winning stage and screen actors Nathan Lane and Brian Dennehy, the production will also feature the rest its original Chicago cast.
Moisés Kaufman will direct Daniel Beaty in the New York premiere of his one-man musical The Tallest Tree in the Forest. Following the life of Paul Robeson, one of the most dynamic figures in American history, the show uses monologues, narrative scenes, heightened poetry, and video footage. The production will run from March 22-29.
The Almeida Theatre and Sonia Friedman Productions staging of Henrik Ibsen's Ghosts will begin performances April 5 and open April 12. Richard Eyre directs his adaptation of the play, which features an Olivier Award-winning performance by Lesley Manville.
The season's final theatrical offering will be the U.S. Premiere of Nicholas Wright's A Human Being Died That Night. This Fugard Theatre and Eric Abraham production is based on the book by Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela. In the play, the apartheid regime’s most notorious assassin, Eugene de Kock, sits opposite psychologist Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela in Pretoria Central Prison in 1997.
